I’M SOMEBODY TRAINING WORKSHOPS
• Workshop I: For Parents and Caregivers of Children with Disabilities
Objectives. Through lecture, discussion, and demonstration of “I’m Somebody” curricula, parents and caregivers will learn:
1) What makes children with disabilities more vulnerable to sexual abuse.
2) At least 4 strategies to use in teaching their children about body boundaries, appropriate and inappropriate touch, social and relationship skills, to enhance their self-esteem, and self-protection skills to reduce their vulnerability.
3) Vocabulary and songs to use in teaching children about personal safety and abuse.
4) How to talk to a child when there is suspected abuse.
Time: 3 hours. Minimum number of participants = 6.
• Workshop II: For Educators, Special Educators, Health Professionals, and Special Education students.
Objectives. Through lecture, discussion, and demonstration of “I’m Somebody” curricula, educators and health professionals will learn:
1) What makes children with disabilities 2-7 times more vulnerable to sexual abuse and exploitation than their non-disabled peers.
2) Eight (8) strategies to use in teaching children about body boundaries, appropriate and inappropriate touch, social and relationship skills, to enhance their self-esteem, and self-protection skills to reduce their vulnerability.
3) Vocabulary and songs to use in teaching children about personal safety and abuse.
4) Indicators of abuse in this population. Early intervention strategies to use when there is suspected abuse, or when a child attempts to disclose abuse.
Time: 3 hours. Minimum number of participants =6.

I’M SOMEBODY, TOO! TRAINING FOR PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS OF CHILDREN, TEENS AND ADULTS WITH COGNITIVE DISABILITIES
Objectives. Through lecture, discussion, and demonstration of “I’m Somebody” and “I’m Somebody, Too!” curricula, parents and caregivers will learn:
1) What makes children and adults with cognitive disabilities 2-7 times more vulnerable to sexual abuse than their non-disabled peers.
2) At least 6 strategies to use in teaching their children about body boundaries, appropriate and inappropriate touch, social and relationship skills, to enhance their self-esteem, and self-protection skills to reduce their vulnerability.
3) Vocabulary and songs to use in teaching children about personal safety and abuse.
4) How to recognize signs of abuse in children with cognitive disabilities.
5) How to talk to a child, teen or adult with cognitive disabilities when there is suspected abuse.
Time: 6 hours. Minimum number of participants = 6.

I’M SOMEBODY STAFF TRAINING WORKSHOPS
2-DAY (16 HOUR) Training for child abuse prevention and intervention staff, special educators, and parents to implement I’m Somebody: Personal safety and abuse prevention for children with disabilities and their caregivers. The training includes:
- What makes children with physical, learning/emotional, vision, and cognitive disabilities 2-7 times more vulnerable to sexual abuse and exploitation than their non-disabled peers.
- Disabilities awareness and self-esteem building exercises to use in the classroom before the personal safety information is provided.
- Strategies to use in teaching children about body boundaries, appropriate and inappropriate touch, social and relationship skills, and self-protection skills to reduce their vulnerability.
- Practical application: learning to use age and developmentally-appropriate materials for children with cognitive, sensory, physical, and learning/emotional disabilities, including puppets, songs, role-plays and other activities in classroom or individual settings.
- Indicators of abuse in this population. Early intervention strategies to use when there is suspected abuse, or when a child attempts to disclose abuse.
Time: 16 hours (2 days) at Agency site. Minimum number of participants =6.

KEEPING KIDS SAFE STAFF TRAINING AT AGENCY SITE
2-DAY (16 HOUR) Training for child abuse prevention and intervention staff to implement Keeping Kids Safe. The training includes:
- Overview of child sexual abuse prevention theory and strategies
- Practical application: learning to make presentations to early childhood or elementary classrooms, using puppets, role-play, visual aides and songs.
- Parent and School Staff workshops. Learning to work with parents and teachers, so they can reinforce concepts at home or school.
- Vocabulary and strategies to use with young children in individual or group settings
- Private Time: learning to talk with young children where there is suspicion of abuse.
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: Minimum number is 6.
Certification at end of training allows participants to present Keeping Kids Safe workshops in their community. Training includes one complimentary Keeping Kids Safe Manual per participant.
